Our School:
- Woodside International School is an independent, co-educational school for students in grades 9 through 12. Our student body is a creative and diverse group of American and International students.
- We can accept students in grades 6-8 either in our English as a Second Language (ESL) program or in our 9th grade class. Those accepted into the 9th grade class have the opportunity to experience a high school curriculum while working at a pace adjusted as needed to their grade level.
- We are dedicated to instilling the knowledge and skills that will prepare students for success in their colleges of choice and beyond.
- Our general education program meets and exceeds both the UC and CSU entrance requirements; we have two college counselors who meet on an ongoing basis with students to help them navigate the challenging college entrance requirements.
- We provide an inclusive and challenging environment in which students play an active role in all steps of their education.
- Classes are small, ensuring that all students recieve one-on-one attention; teachers also have scheduled tutorials both during the day and after school to offer additional assistance.
Our Purpose:
- As educators, our goal is to ensure that each one of our students progresses academically, socially, and personally. We realize that for real learning to take place, students require individual attention and a degree of personal freedom.
- We have intentionally maintained Woodside as a small school with one of the best student to teacher ratios in the Bay Area, ensuring that students have the support and space to develop their strengths.
- Teachers and staff provide students with the guidance and skills that enable them to take personal responsibility for their education and for a healthful lifestyle; we encourage these in every possible way.
- By practicing a variety of skills, such as organization, communication, research, problem solving, decision-making, and other study skills, our students learn how to succeed in the academic world while also preparing themselves for the outside world and a successful future.
Our Approach:
- We believe that students and teachers must work closely together in a way that empowers the student. Classes are taught using a variety of methods depending on the teachers and the students, with individualized programs planned as needed, allowing each student to advance appropriately.
- We schedule supervised tutorial classes during the day and provide after-school tutorials, so that students can get work done at school and receive extra help as needed.
- In addition to our regular monthly progress reports and end-of-semester reports, parents can request weekly updates for closer monitoring.
